North Korea: US Approval for South Korean Nuclear Submarine a 'Dangerous Development' - Sarmad

The Korean Central News Agency quoted a statement from North Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs saying that the United States’ approval of South Korea’s construction of its first nuclear-powered submarine constitutes a “serious development” that exacerbates political and military instability in the Asia-Pacific region.

The ministry added that this approval is further evidence of Washington’s proliferation of nuclear weapons through the AUKUS pact, accusing the United States of a history of extreme nuclear armament that has led to the collapse of the international nuclear order.

South Korea aims to launch its first nuclear-powered submarine by the mid-2030s as part of a new program designed to counter the nuclear and missile threats posed by North Korean submarines.

The agreement on Seoul’s plan to build the nuclear submarine with Washington came as part of a commercial deal signed last year between the two allied countries.
