Taylor Swift Makes History at the MTV VMAs - Sarmad

Taylor Swift’s song “The Fate of Ophelia,” inspired by the world of showgirls, won the top prize at the annual MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), and the singer dedicated this honor to the late country music legend Dolly Parton.

Swift took home three awards at this year’s ceremony, raising her career total to 33 wins—a record-breaking, unprecedented tally. She had previously tied with Beyoncé, each holding 30 awards.

“The Fate of Ophelia,” the lead single from her 2025 album “The Life of a Showgirl,” which broke records, won Video of the Year.

Holding her “Moon Person” trophy, Swift praised Parton, describing her as “the ultimate showgirl” who told stories that were “vivid and richly detailed.”

Swift said, “I think we were all very lucky to share this planet with Dolly Parton for a while.”

Parton, an award-winning country singer, songwriter, and businesswoman, died in August at the age of 80.

Earlier in the show, Swift received the inaugural MTV Video Music Award for Artist-Director.

The 36-year-old singer has written and directed 18 of the roughly 60 music videos released throughout her career. The ceremony also premiered her latest video for her new song “Patchwork Zero.”

Swift said, “The main reason I love writing and directing music videos so much is that you, the fans, make it so enjoyable. You really care about what we create.”

She also won Best Direction for the video of her song “Ophelia.”

The awards show was broadcast live on CBS and MTV, and streamed on Paramount+, hosted by Snoop Dogg. Winners in the major categories were selected through public voting.
