First Deputy Prime Minister Heads Kuwait Delegation to UN Crime Prevention Conference in Abu Dhabi - Sarmad
(KUNA) — Sheikh Fahad Youssef Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Kuwait, chaired the Kuwaiti delegation participating in the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, which launched today, Saturday, in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi. The congress is attended by representatives of several countries, international organizations, experts, and specialists.
In a statement received by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Minister Al-Yousef emphasized that Kuwait’s participation in the congress (Abu Dhabi 2026) reflects its commitment to active engagement in international forums focused on security and criminal justice, supporting joint efforts, and enhancing cooperation and coordination among states to confront security challenges, combat crime, and promote security and stability.
He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Government of the United Arab Emirates and its President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for hosting the congress, its excellent organization, and their generous hospitality.
The Ministry of Interior stated in its statement that the congress will address a number of security and judicial issues and challenges, foremost among them combating organized crime and terrorism, strengthening criminal justice systems and the rule of law, developing crime prevention strategies, and responsibly leveraging modern technologies.
It clarified that the congress’s proceedings also cover ways to enhance international cooperation and partnerships, exchange expertise and best practices, contribute to building capacities to confront evolving crime patterns, and strengthen access to justice amid rapid digital transformations.
The ministry noted that Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef held, on the sidelines of the congress’s launch, a meeting with Syrian Interior Minister Anas Al-Khattab and his accompanying delegation, as well as another meeting with Malaysian Interior Minister Dato’ Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and his delegation.
It added that the meetings discussed ways to enhance security cooperation, exchange expertise, and coordinate in areas of mutual interest.
The Kuwaiti delegation, led by Al-Yousef, includes Awatef Al-Sand, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice; Jamal Al-Ghanim, Kuwait’s Ambassador to the UAE; Dr. Hamad Al-Mukarrad, Head of the Financial Investigations Unit; Brigadier Fahad Al-Badr, Head of the Criminal Security Affairs Sector; and a number of officials and specialists.
