Sisi affirms during call with Al-Aleimi Egypt's support for Yemen's security, stability, and territorial integrity

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed his country’s support for achieving security and stability in Yemen and reaching a comprehensive political settlement that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people.

This was stated during a phone call between El-Sisi and Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Presidency.

Mohamed El-Shenawy, spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, stated that the call underscored “the depth of the historical and fraternal relations between Egypt and Yemen.” Al-Alimi praised Egypt’s role in supporting Yemen’s stability and territorial integrity, commending Egypt’s steadfast positions in favor of its fraternal Yemeni people.

He added that the call discussed the latest developments in Yemen and the efforts underway to restore security and stability. El-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s commitment to continuing its support for Yemen and its fraternal people, stressing the importance of preserving the unity of the Yemeni state and its national institutions.

According to the spokesperson, El-Sisi reaffirmed “Egypt’s supportive stance toward all efforts aimed at achieving security and stability and reaching a comprehensive political settlement that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people.”

Both sides also stressed the importance of continuing coordination and consultation between the two countries on various regional issues, in a manner that contributes to enhancing security and stability in the region and serves the interests of the two fraternal peoples.

This comes amid escalating fighting in Yemen between government forces and the Houthis. Since August, the fighting has forced 133,000 people to displace, creating an urgent need for shelter and food as violence intensifies and the Houthis take control of strategic areas.
