Egyptian Foreign Minister to Araghchi: The security and stability of the Gulf states and the region must be respected

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty affirmed on Thursday to his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, the importance of respecting the security and stability of the Gulf states. During their meeting in New York, he emphasized the necessity of returning to the negotiation track with Washington to end the escalation that has inflicted severe damage on the interests of the region’s countries.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement issued on Friday that the meeting, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, addressed the latest developments in the region, as well as the efforts being made and the proposals being put forward to reach an agreement that would contain tensions and de-escalate the situation.

The ministry added that Abdelatty underscored the paramount importance of each state fulfilling its responsibilities to ensure the movement and freedom of international navigation, so that the negative repercussions of this crisis on the global economy can be contained. These repercussions have significantly disrupted energy and fertilizer supply chains and international trade flows.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister reaffirmed the importance of respecting the security and stability of the Gulf states and all countries in the region.

He stressed the need to return to dialogue and resume the diplomatic track through negotiations to reach understandings between the United States and Iran, considering this the only way to end the current crisis and put a stop to the escalation that is causing severe harm to the interests of all countries in the region.
