Indian elderly woman dies after monkey attack at her home - Sarmad

A 91-year-old woman died in Karnataka, southern India, a day after being attacked by a monkey at her home.

The family identified the victim as "Bhagya," the wife of the well-known writer M. S. Savadi. The family said she was walking in the courtyard of her home in the "B. T. Patil Nagar" neighborhood when a monkey suddenly attacked her, causing her to fall to the ground.

Surveillance cameras installed outside the home captured the incident. The family added that the monkey also attacked the victim's daughter when she rushed to help her.

The victim was taken to a private hospital for treatment. Although she initially appeared to be recovering, her condition later deteriorated, and she died while receiving treatment the following day.

The incident comes amid repeated reports of monkey attacks on elderly women in India, some of which have resulted in fatalities.

On September 10, a 55-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh died after falling from her rooftop while trying to escape from monkeys that surrounded her as she was hanging out laundry.

A similar incident was recorded on September 14 in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, where a woman died after falling from her rooftop following a sudden monkey attack. This sparked protests by residents demanding compensation for her family and calling for attention to the increasing attacks by wild animals, including monkeys, langurs, and stray dogs.

In March, a 65-year-old woman in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, died after a group of monkeys chased her as she was returning from the fields, causing her to fall and sustain fatal injuries.
