IAEA Director General congratulates Kuwait on its membership and chairmanship of the Board of Governors

(KUNA) — The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, extended his congratulations to the State of Kuwait on Tuesday for its election to the Agency’s Board of Governors and its assumption of the Board’s presidency.

The statement was made during a meeting between Grossi and Sadik Ma’arifi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Organizations, on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Grossi expressed his anticipation of continuing cooperation with Kuwait in the coming period. For his part, Ambassador Ma’arifi affirmed Kuwait’s commitment to supporting the IAEA’s role and enhancing cooperation with the Agency in the fields of peaceful uses of nuclear energy, as well as nuclear safety and security.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination on issues of mutual interest, and the importance of supporting the IAEA’s efforts in fulfilling its mandate, thereby contributing to the promotion of international peace and security.
