Report: Iran offers to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 7 days in exchange for easing U.S. pressure - Sarmad

Iran has offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States takes initial steps to ease military pressure on it, according to a Japanese Kyodo News report on Tuesday citing an Iranian government official.

The official said the proposal, which has already been conveyed to Washington through intermediaries, calls for the resumption of talks aimed at reaching a permanent end to hostilities between the two countries.

Tehran intends to leverage this week’s United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York to consult with countries playing a mediating role.

The official stated that there is a possibility of moving toward an agreement and urged Washington to demonstrate seriousness and commitment if the diplomatic track is to progress.

He added that if these steps are taken, Iran is prepared to reopen the waterway within seven days and return to the negotiating table.

According to the Iranian official, the new initiative has received the approval of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and the Supreme National Security Council.
