Chinese Ambassador: 55 Years of Relations with Kuwait and a Strategic Partnership Toward Broader Horizons
(KUNA) – Yang Xin, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Kuwait, affirmed on Monday that Kuwait-China relations are witnessing rapid development across various fields, expressing his country’s aspiration to expand the strategic partnership and enhance cooperation in line with Kuwait’s Vision 2035.
This came during a speech at an event commemorating the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Kuwait, attended by Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Dr. Subaih Al-Makhzoum, a number of heads of diplomatic missions, and representatives of international organizations in Kuwait.
Ambassador Yang stated that bilateral relations with Kuwait have achieved continuous progress over the past decades, culminating in the establishment of a strategic partnership in 2018. He emphasized that cooperation between the two countries has entered a rapid trajectory under the strategic guidance of both nations’ leaderships.
He added that China looks forward to deepening comprehensive cooperation with Kuwait in political, economic, cultural, scientific, technological, and security fields, aiming to achieve greater shared interests and benefit the peoples of both countries.
He clarified that his country is keen to align China’s Belt and Road Initiative with Kuwait’s Vision 2035, and to continue cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and infrastructure, while expanding it to include ports, artificial intelligence, the digital economy, smart cities, and cybersecurity.
He pointed out that Kuwait’s strategic geographic location and its historical status as a commercial hub in the Gulf region provide it with key foundations to transform into a regional logistics center linking Asia with Europe and extending to the African continent.
In this context, he affirmed China’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Kuwait in developing ports, infrastructure, logistics zones, and supply chains, thereby enhancing shared interests and supporting the development plans of both countries.
Regarding energy, he noted that Kuwait and China are important partners for each other, with China being one of the largest importers of Kuwaiti crude oil, while Kuwait ranks among the top suppliers of oil to the Chinese market.
He added that his country looks forward to continuing to deepen cooperation in the oil and gas sectors, alongside expanding the partnership in new and renewable energy sectors, to become one of the new drivers of economic cooperation between the two countries in the coming phase.
Ambassador Yang emphasized that Kuwait-China relations go beyond energy cooperation, being rooted in mutual political trust, shared economic interests, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges. He expressed his country’s aspiration to build on the achievements of the past 55 years and to advance the strategic partnership between the two countries toward broader horizons.
