The Diwan of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, announced on Monday the passing of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, son of former Dubai Ruler Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and younger brother of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, who died on Monday morning.
The Diwan announced an official period of mourning and the lowering of flags in Dubai for 10 days, effective from Monday.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid paid tribute to his late brother, saying: “May Allah have mercy on Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum… May Allah have mercy on you, my brother… You have reached the Lord, Generous and Great… You are absent from our sight, but never from our prayers and hearts, O Ahmed.”
He added: “May Allah grant you a spacious place in His Paradise… May He grant us and your loved ones patience and solace… Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.”
