The Crown Prince, Representative of His Highness the Amir, Meets UN Secretary-General on the Margins of the High-Level Week in New York - Sarmad

(KUNA) – His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince, met today with His Excellency Mr. António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, at the headquarters of the international organization in New York on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting was held on behalf of His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of the State of Kuwait.

At the outset of the meeting, His Highness the Crown Prince conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir to the Secretary-General.

His Highness the Crown Prince also affirmed Kuwait’s commitment to actively participating in the work of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. He noted the critical nature of the current phase and the need for concerted international efforts to de-escalate tensions at all levels. He emphasized the importance of enhancing the role of the United Nations and improving its mechanisms to address successive crises, thereby contributing to establishing the foundations of regional and international security and stability and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

For his part, the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, praised Kuwait’s historic and pioneering role in supporting the international organization. He commended the country’s intensive diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue and settle conflicts through peaceful means, its continuous support for humanitarian efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of affected populations, and its backing of the UN’s noble activities to maintain international peace and security.

The meeting also included a review of the latest developments and the evolving situation on the regional and international scenes, particularly the efforts underway to end tensions in the region. The two sides exchanged views on ways to enhance cooperation to address the growing global challenges.
