Saudi Arabia calls for respect for states' sovereignty and ensuring "freedom of navigation"

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stated that the Kingdom reaffirms the necessity of adhering to the principles of international law, which emphasize respect for state sovereignty, the peaceful resolution of disputes, and ensuring the safety and freedom of navigation in international waterways, thereby safeguarding the security of all nations and fulfilling the aspirations of their peoples.

He added that the Kingdom’s participation in the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly this year is a continuation of its approach to engaging with the international community and continuing its role in supporting global peace and security, promoting dialogue and mediation, and contributing to addressing shared challenges.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan noted in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the Kingdom views the proceedings of this session, held under the theme “Restoring Trust and Managing Transformation: The United Nations Meeting Everyone’s Aspirations,” as an opportunity to renew emphasis on the principles for which international institutions, foremost among them the United Nations, were established. These principles include the UN’s role in establishing peace and security, consolidating international laws and norms, and enhancing international cooperation in confronting crises.

The Saudi Foreign Minister pointed out that the Kingdom places significant emphasis on sustainable development in its participation this year, particularly artificial intelligence technologies and how to utilize them responsibly to develop sectors, enhance efficiency, and support innovation, thereby delivering tangible benefits to peoples. This aligns with Saudi Arabia’s designation of 2026 as the Year of Artificial Intelligence.
