Sisi to CIA Director: We view the US as a strategic partner and support a comprehensive agreement with Iran
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed on Sunday to John Ratcliffe, Director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), during a meeting in Cairo, that Egypt views the United States as a “key strategic partner.” He emphasized Cairo’s support for a comprehensive agreement to resolve the Iranian crisis, reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast position rejecting any aggression against Arab states, and underscored the necessity of resolving crises through diplomatic channels.
According to a statement by the Egyptian Presidency, the meeting, attended by Hassan Rashad, Head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service, discussed ways to strengthen the strategic relations between Egypt and the United States. El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s pride in the extensive and distinguished relations between the two countries, which continue to develop across all levels, and praised the existing coordination and consultation on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
El-Sisi stressed that Egypt regards the United States as a key strategic partner in political, security, and economic fields, and commended the efforts made by U.S. President Donald Trump to achieve security, peace, and stability worldwide.
The Egyptian Presidency noted that El-Sisi and Ratcliffe reviewed developments in the Middle East during their meeting. The Egyptian President affirmed Egypt’s full support for efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement to resolve the Iranian crisis, contributing to restoring security and stability in the region and ensuring freedom of international navigation.
El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast position in supporting the security and sovereignty of Arab states and rejecting any aggression against them. He emphasized the importance of resolving regional crises through political and diplomatic channels and addressing their root causes comprehensively, thereby preserving national institutions and safeguarding territorial integrity and regional security.
The Egyptian Presidency indicated that Ratcliffe conveyed the greetings of U.S. President Donald Trump, expressed his appreciation for the meeting, and affirmed the U.S. administration’s commitment to continuing work and close coordination with Egypt to enhance security and stability in the Middle East.
He also praised Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting efforts to reach peaceful and comprehensive settlements to the region’s crises, and highlighted the level of cooperation between the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency and Egypt’s General Intelligence Service in the fields of security, intelligence, counterterrorism, organized crime, and transnational crimes.
