What makes this prophecy particularly terrifying is that one of these scientists previously made accurate predictions regarding artificial intelligence, astonishing scientists and observers when his earlier statements, which many had disbelieved, came to pass.
According to a report published by the British newspaper “Daily Star,” which was reviewed by “Al-Arabiya.net,” researchers predict that “Judgment Day” and the end of the world will occur before the year 2026 concludes, according to Al-Arabiya.net.
This prophecy actually dates back to a 1960 study published in the prestigious scientific journal “Science.” The study, conducted by three prominent researchers from the University of Illinois, warned of a catastrophic event on Friday, November 13, 2026.
The three scientists—Heinz von Foerster, Patricia M. Mora, and Lawrence W. Amiot—reached this alarming conclusion by analyzing prevailing trends in Western society. Their theory was based on the idea that the Earth would reach a point of collapse due to massive and accelerating population growth.
When the study was published, the world population was approximately three billion. Today, that number has surged to nearly 8.3 billion.
This was not the first time some have predicted the end of our planet, but this study garnered particular attention because it stemmed from rigorous scientific research, according to the “Daily Express.”
Moreover, one of the study’s contributors, the Austrian-American scientist von Foerster, had also made a prescient prediction about the dangers of artificial intelligence, long before it became central to the daily lives of countless people.
In a 1995 interview with “The Information Philosopher” to discuss this technology, von Foerster clarified that it is dangerous to assume that artificial intelligence “thinks” in the same way humans do.
Von Foerster, who died in 2002, argued that AI’s ability to perform tasks that appear intelligent is not equivalent to human intelligence, describing this assumption as “dangerous.”
Thirty-one years later, genuine concerns have emerged regarding people’s current reliance on artificial intelligence to achieve interactions that mimic human engagement, with some even forming emotional relationships with chatbots.
Scientists say that the remarkable accuracy of von Foerster’s predictions about the future relationship between humanity and artificial intelligence adds a more worrying dimension to his warning about the end of the world. According to this scientist and his colleagues, the world population will reach its maximum limit within just over two months. Their catastrophic predictions are unrelated to nuclear war or environmental disasters; in their estimation, the end of the world will result from excessive population growth.
According to official projections, the world population is expected to reach approximately 10.3 billion by the mid-2080s, before eventually beginning to decline.
