Meta links WhatsApp Business with AI agents to execute technical tasks - Sarmad

Meta has enabled the use of AI agents to perform a range of tasks related to setting up and managing the WhatsApp Business service, in a move aimed at simplifying technical procedures for companies and developers.
TechCrunch reported that the new feature relies on the “WhatsApp Business Tools MCP” tool, which allows AI agents to interact with WhatsApp Business tools and execute a series of setup steps based on instructions provided by the user in natural language.
Under this capability, developers can describe the task they wish to accomplish, and the AI agent will handle part of the processes that previously required navigating between multiple tools and platforms, such as Meta Business Manager, application development units, and API references.
The tasks the agent can perform include creating a WhatsApp Business account, adding and verifying a phone number, registering the account for access to the Cloud API, as well as configuring and testing messages, creating and editing message templates, and inspecting Webhooks to identify certain issues related to setup, verification, and billing.
The tool’s use is not limited to initial setup; the agent can also be utilized for certain management, testing, and troubleshooting tasks after the service is operational.
Meta employs the Model Context Protocol, commonly abbreviated as MCP, to connect AI agents with external services and tools, enabling them to execute direct actions rather than merely providing answers or writing code.
The company also offers another server named “Meta Social Technologies MCP,” which can be used to assist in searching technical documentation, discovering API endpoints, and diagnosing certain errors during service configuration.
This move comes amid a growing trend toward expanding the role of AI agents to include the direct execution of digital tasks and technical procedures, in addition to providing information and assisting with code writing.
