Axios: Trump to Meet with Leaders or Foreign Ministers of Gulf States Next Tuesday

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday evening that he hopes the end of the war against Iran is near, and a separate media report indicated that Trump is expected to meet with Gulf state leaders on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly next Tuesday to discuss the conflict.

The war with Iran has entered its seventh month without any sign of an imminent end.

Axios reported late Wednesday that Trump’s meeting with Gulf state leaders next week in New York is expected to focus on US plans for a post-war strategy.

The outlet based its report on unnamed sources. It stated that Trump would meet with leaders or foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states: Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman.

Neither the State Department nor the White House responded to requests for comment.

Earlier on Wednesday, Trump told reporters, “Well, we hope we are on our way to the end of the war.”

Speaking about Iran, he said, “They want to reach an agreement… we will see how things go,” repeating previous statements. He added that he had heard “directly” from Iran, without providing details.

The rise in oil and gas prices due to the US-Israeli war against Iran has become a major issue for the Republican Party, to which Trump belongs, ahead of the November midterm elections.
