For the third time, the U.S. House of Representatives passes a resolution to limit President Trump’s authority in the war with Iran

The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Tuesday to approve a measure restricting President Donald Trump’s authority in the war with Iran, in what was described as a “strong political rebuke” of the administration’s handling of the conflict, just weeks before the November midterm elections, according to CNN.

This is the third time the House has voted on a Democrat-led resolution seeking to compel Trump to withdraw U.S. forces stationed in the region. However, Democrats view this vote as their most significant move to date, as it comes among the final bills the chamber will consider before the November elections.

Seven Republican members joined Democrats in voting for the resolution, an increase from the four Republican votes that supported the two previous resolutions.

House Republican leaders did not direct their members on how to vote on this type of resolution. However, Trump attacked Republicans who voted against him on this issue, characterizing their votes on these resolutions as a “test of their support for him.”
