Al-Zaidi: Investigations ongoing to identify perpetrators of drone attacks on Saudi Arabia from Iraq - Sarmad
• Efforts to prevent any recurrence of acts that could harm relations with neighboring countries
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Idabi said on Tuesday that investigations by authorities into attacks targeting Saudi Arabia that originated from Iraqi territory are still ongoing, and their results are under analysis.
Al-Idabi, speaking at a press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin, stated, “We are working to protect Iraq’s airspace,” and affirmed that “the decision of war and peace lies with the state,” while noting that “security forces are capable of maintaining control on the ground,” according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
These developments come as Baghdad intensifies its security and investigative measures to uncover the circumstances surrounding the attack, amid official assurances that the Iraqi state is committed to prosecuting those responsible and preventing any recurrence of acts that could damage Iraq’s relations with neighboring countries or threaten regional security.
Earlier on Friday, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom’s strongest condemnation of the targeting of the East-West oil pipeline in the Riyadh and Medina regions by several drones launched from Iraq, which resulted in human casualties and some damage currently being addressed.
Baghdad: Focus is on those who committed the act
Hours earlier, Saad Maan, head of the Iraqi Security Media Cell, said that his country does not permit any aggression against regional countries, as reported by INA.
Maan clarified in statements to the official agency that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for launching drones at Saudi Arabia, adding that his government has communicated with the Saudi side to explain the measures Baghdad has taken in this regard.
Maan stressed that Iraq “seeks to be a positive point of convergence in the Middle East and the world.”
He continued, “An intelligence committee has been formed, and the platform from which the drones were launched has been discovered within Iraqi territory. The investigation is ongoing.”
He affirmed that “the focus is on those who committed the act, and there is a new vision and a new line aimed at insisting on not giving any opportunity to those who attempt to confuse matters or drag Iraq into situations we do not desire.”
Iraq had announced on Saturday the seizure of a rocket-launching platform within its territory, stating it was used in targeting the East-West pipeline in Saudi Arabia.
