New details have emerged regarding the wedding celebrations of Donald Trump Jr., son of U.S. President Donald Trump, revealing that a Russian businessman with ties to President Vladimir Putin funded two days of festivities held on secluded islands in the Bahamas following the marriage ceremony.
Donald Trump Jr. and his wife, Bianca Cerrone, confirmed that Omar Kreimil, president of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), covered the costs of the post-wedding celebrations, describing the event as an “extremely generous wedding gift” from a friend and expressing their gratitude.
In a statement posted on Instagram, the couple said they held a small wedding ceremony limited to family members before joining a larger group to celebrate.
They clarified that the weekend trip to the Bahamas had been planned in advance and was not originally intended as a wedding celebration, but had evolved into an occasion to honor the couple.
The website ProPublica had previously reported that Kreimil had funded the wedding festivities.
Kreimil did not respond to requests for comment, while President Trump did not attend his son’s wedding or the celebrations held over the weekend, which coincided with Memorial Day in the United States.
In a statement, Trump said he did not know Kreimil, adding, “I don’t know who Omar is, and I’ve never heard of him before,” characterizing the event as a “post-wedding party” held in honor of the couple and downplaying its significance.
First Lady Melania Trump also distanced herself from the event, with a spokesperson for her confirming that she had no relationship with Kreimil, past or present.
The spokesperson stated that Melania Trump “had absolutely no role in organizing the wedding,” and was not informed of any aspect of the event’s financial planning.
Photos of the Bahamas celebration, reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, depicted a lively atmosphere, with guests posing for pictures beneath a heart-shaped sculpture.
One attendee described the event in a post as the “wedding of the century,” while other images showed guests dancing under disco balls and a white wedding cake topped with figurines of a bride and groom.
Donald Trump Jr. was seen carrying his new wife in his arms as fireworks went off in the background, while a DJ platform bore the initials “B&D,” referring to Bianca and Donald.
One guest told the newspaper that he saw a group of people speaking Russian, but did not know their identities.
Among those participating in the celebrations was Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and a senior presidential adviser, who recently met with Putin in Moscow.
Growing Ties to the Trump Family
Kreimil has been working for years to expand the influence of the International Boxing Federation, which he has led since 2020, and has held several meetings with Donald Trump Jr. since his father returned to the White House.
Last year, Kreimil sat next to Donald Trump Jr. during a panel discussion at a conference in Istanbul, alongside Rashida Ali Shabazz, daughter of the late American boxer Muhammad Ali.
On May 24, coinciding with the celebrations he funded in the Bahamas, Kreimil posted a photo of himself walking in a forest wearing a T-shirt featuring an image of Putin and the phrase: “Who took Berlin?”
