Syrian President: Syria Can Feed 100 Million People with 'Modern Technologies' - Sarmad

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa affirmed that Syria has the capacity to feed 75 million people, noting that with appropriate agricultural tools, it could feed approximately 100 million people.

Al-Sharaa’s remarks came during a speech at a dialogue session titled “Syria’s Future” at the 2026 Arab Media Summit, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The Syrian president highlighted the importance of Syria’s agricultural sector, explaining that with modern technologies, Syria could contribute to achieving food security in the region, including for Gulf states.

He added, “Restoring reliance on the Syrian food basket to meet Gulf needs is among investment targets.”

During the dialogue, al-Sharaa projected that his country’s economy would reach $50 billion in 2026, up from $32 billion in 2025 and $20 billion in 2024, and that the Syrian economy would reach $60 billion in 2027, matching the level recorded in 2010.

He clarified that Syria had “rapidly overcome sanctions files relative to the international reality and the challenges it faced,” adding that it had returned to participation in regional and international affairs by enhancing strategic security and trade corridors.
