Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa affirmed during the Arab Media Summit that Emiratis are opportunists, adding, “We are going through a transitional phase marked by numerous shocks as we shift from corruption to liberation and support for the private sector.”
Speaking at the summit held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, al-Sharaa said, “Our projections indicate that the economy will reach $50 billion by 2026, with aspirations to achieve $200 billion in the coming years.”
He added, “We are undergoing a transition from corruption to liberation and support for the private sector, but we are in a transitional phase experiencing many shocks. Syria is working to rebuild trust in state institutions through transitional stages.”
He clarified that “Syria has transformed from an exporter of the Captagon problem and regional instability into a beacon of stability.”
He stated that linking the Port of Jebel Ali with the Port of Tartous would benefit the region and its stability, particularly amid current geopolitical tensions.
He further noted that confidence among Syrians has been restored following the liberation of Damascus, and hope has returned to Syrians and the region, emphasizing that Syria had suffered from mismanagement and corruption for many years and is currently in a transitional phase.
He continued, “We have overcome sanctions and returned to our normal position in the region,” noting that Syria was once a source of evil and Captagon, but is now evolving into a secure route for supply chains.
