Ukraine considers legalizing the 'sex industry' - Sarmad

A report by The Wall Street Journal revealed that Ukrainian authorities are considering lifting the ban on the sex industry in the country, aiming to support its war-damaged economy and fund the war against Russia.

The production, possession, or distribution of pornographic materials is illegal in Ukraine, punishable by imprisonment of up to seven years.

Nevertheless, the adult content industry in the country has seen significant growth, benefiting from the authorities’ tolerance and the prevalence of corruption within some police units.

Since the outbreak of the war with Russia, Ukrainian authorities have begun demanding that pornographic content creators pay taxes, but compliance would practically amount to admitting to engaging in an illegal activity.

In this context, Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zeleny is pushing for a bill to legalize pornography, noting that it could generate up to $25 million in annual tax revenues for Ukraine. He predicted that these revenues could help fund up to 30,000 drones.

The report noted that 7,900 content creators on the OnlyFans platform earned more than $131 million in 2023 alone.
