Syria: 7 inmates of Ain al-Arab Prison die in fire inside the facility - Sarmad

Seven inmates at Ain al-Arab prison in the countryside of Aleppo died on Saturday, and several others were injured by smoke inhalation following a fire that broke out inside the facility, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), citing a security source.

The source told SANA that the fire erupted amid chaos stirred up by a number of inmates in the wake of riots that took place in the city on Friday.

He added that the prison is still being managed by its former staff, noting that Internal Security Forces have not yet taken over its operations.
