Iraq: 47 missiles and 46 projectiles seized at an abandoned site in Anbar - Sarmad

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced on Friday the seizure of 47 drones and 46 projectiles in Anbar province, in western Iraq.

The ministry stated that units of the Anbar Provincial Police Command, based on intelligence information, managed to seize an abandoned site in the Al-35 area of the province.

It added that the site had previously been used as a vehicle tire repair shop, and inside it were found quantities of drones, projectiles, and equipment related to their operation.

The ministry clarified that the inspection resulted in the seizure of 47 drones and 46 projectiles prepared for attachment and use with them, as well as control devices, batteries, equipment, and other related materials.

The ministry pointed out that the site was secured and all seized items were confiscated.

It further stated that competent authorities have initiated investigative and technical procedures to determine the source of these materials and the entities linked to them, and to take the necessary legal actions.

The announcement comes as the Iraqi government pursues efforts to centralize weapons in state hands, considering it one of its security priorities, and affirming that official institutions must be the sole entities authorized to possess and use them.
