Saudi Foreign Ministry condemns drone attack on East-West pipeline from Iraq - Sarmad

Saudi Arabia on Friday strongly condemned the targeting of the East-West pipeline in the Riyadh and Medina regions by several drones originating from Iraq, which resulted in human injuries and material damage being addressed, according to a statement from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry stated that the Kingdom had responded to a request from the Iraqi Prime Minister to allow the Iraqi government to take measures to prevent attacks launched from Iraqi territory against Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries, noting that it chose not to retaliate at this stage in support of the Iraqi government’s efforts.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the Kingdom’s right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security, facilities, citizens, and residents on its territory.

Earlier on Friday, the Saudi Ministry of Energy announced the precautionary shutdown of the East-West pipeline following multiple attacks against it.

The ministry quoted an official source as saying that the pipeline, located in the Riyadh and Medina regions, was targeted several times on the morning of September 10, 2026, resulting in several injuries. The source added that the injured received the necessary medical care.

The source clarified that the attacks caused fires at several sites, leading to a temporary halt in some operational activities, while specialized field teams began containment efforts, secured the sites, and assessed the damage.

The source further stated that emergency and specialized technical teams began their work immediately after the attacks, taking necessary measures to secure the pipeline and verify compliance with safety procedures and approved emergency plans, in coordination with relevant authorities.

The Ministry of Energy confirmed that it would announce any further developments regarding the incident in due course.
