Starting from early next year, Syria works to increase the capacity of Aleppo International Airport - Sarmad

Aleppo International Airport is one of Syria’s most important civilian airports. Its development aims to boost the aviation sector, enhance air connectivity, stimulate the local economy, and create new job opportunities for the city’s residents.

In this context, the General Company for Civil Aviation and Syrian Air Transport announced that work on developing Aleppo International Airport will begin in early 2027. The goal is to improve its operational efficiency, strengthen its technical and service capabilities, and increase its capacity to exceed two million passengers annually.

According to a statement issued by the Authority on Friday, the development works are proceeding in parallel with the completion of the restructuring of the new Aleppo International Airport project and the necessary preparations for its implementation.

The Authority noted that field surveys, technical studies, and preliminary assessments are currently being carried out at the existing Aleppo International Airport to determine the requirements for its development, enhancing its operational and capacity capabilities in line with accepted international standards and requirements.

According to local figures, the design operational capacity of the current passenger terminal at Aleppo International Airport is approximately 1.7 million passengers annually, based on its original capacity. Plans and projects have been discussed to develop the airport’s capacity to accommodate up to 6 million, and later 12 million, passengers annually.
