Egypt and Turkey: Intensifying efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent their spread - Sarmad
Egypt and Turkey affirmed today, Friday, the importance of intensifying efforts to de-escalate tensions, prevent their spread, and support political and diplomatic tracks that contribute to consolidating regional security and stability.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that this came during a phone call between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, during which they exchanged views on the latest regional developments and the importance of continuing Egyptian-Turkish coordination regarding the crises affecting the region.
Regarding bilateral relations, the two ministers discussed prospects for developing the partnership between the two countries in the coming phase, reflecting the progress witnessed in bilateral ties. They agreed to continue working to enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation.
The ministers also discussed, according to the statement, the follow-up on the implementation of understandings reached during the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, held in Cairo in February 2026, presided over by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The two ministers emphasized the necessity of continuing preparations for the next meeting of the Council, to be held in Turkey.
On another front, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Abdelatty discussed during a phone call with his Liberian counterpart, Sarah Nyanti, ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. They exchanged views on several regional issues of common interest.
The call also covered recent developments in the regional situation in Africa, foremost among which was the situation in Sudan. The two ministers discussed efforts aimed at supporting security and stability and resolving crises through peaceful means, particularly in light of Liberia’s non-permanent membership on the UN Security Council, which contributes to supporting the priorities of the African continent and defending its interests within the Council.
