Kuwait Participates in the International Space Summit in Paris to Develop Scientific Research and Build National Capabilities in Space Sciences - Sarmad

(KUNA) – Kuwait participated in the International Space Summit, whose activities began yesterday, Wednesday, in the French capital, Paris, and will last for two days. The summit is jointly organized by France and Germany to discuss the future of the space sector and enhance international cooperation in addressing its scientific, technological, economic, and environmental challenges.

The Kuwaiti delegation to the summit was led by Dr. Amna Farhan, Director General of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, and included Dr. Hala Al-Jassar, Director of the Kuwait National Center for Space Research, along with several leaders, officials, and representatives of space agencies, scientific institutions, and specialized companies from more than 90 countries.

In his opening address, French President Emmanuel Macron called for intensified efforts to enhance European and international space capabilities and develop space technology to serve the communications sector and strengthen space security and sustainability.

For her part, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the importance of unifying European efforts and expanding investment in the space sector to boost competitiveness, security, and autonomy, while continuing international cooperation to ensure the safe and sustainable use of space.

The summit addressed three main pillars: developing the global space economy through international cooperation and supporting progress in science, technology, and space exploration; and enhancing space security through dialogue and partnerships.

Kuwait’s participation comes amid its interest in developing scientific research, building national capacities in space science and its applications, and strengthening communication with specialized international institutions.
