Ministry of Health confirms Kuwait's commitment to supporting joint Arab health efforts - Sarmad

(KUNA) – The Ministry of Health affirmed on Sunday Kuwait’s commitment to supporting the trajectory of joint Arab health efforts and enhancing cooperation and integration among Arab countries, thereby contributing to the development of health services and improving the quality of life.

In a press release marking Arab Health Day 2026, which was adopted by the Arab Ministers of Health Council under the theme “Towards a Longer Life and Sustainable Quality of Life,” the ministry explained that Kuwait’s support for this direction stems from its conviction that health constitutes a fundamental pillar of comprehensive and sustainable development.

It pointed to the continuation of efforts to enhance the exchange of expertise and successful experiences, and to broaden coordination with Arab countries and regional health institutions, in order to serve human health and elevate the efficiency of health systems.

The statement quoted Assistant Undersecretary for External Health Services and Coordinator for Arab, Regional, and International Health Organizations, Dr. Hisham Kalander, who emphasized that this year’s theme embodies a strategic vision that goes beyond providing curative services to include building integrated, resilient health systems, strengthening prevention and awareness, and investing in human health across all life stages.

Kalander added that Kuwait, represented by the Ministry of Health, continues to support joint initiatives and programs, enhance cooperation frameworks with Arab countries, and exchange expertise and successful health practices, thereby contributing to the development of services and achieving health and well-being for the peoples of the region.

He noted that Kuwait’s hosting of specialized scientific and health events and meetings, along with its active participation in supporting Arab health institutions and organizations, reflects its dedication to advancing health cooperation toward broader horizons and consolidating concepts of prevention, sustainability, and quality of life.

He clarified that Arab Health Day, adopted in 2018 following a proposal submitted by the Kuwaiti delegation during the 49th session of the Arab Ministers of Health Council, serves as an annual milestone for raising health awareness, exchanging best practices, and highlighting the achievements of member states in developing healthcare.

He stressed that rapidly escalating health challenges necessitate further coordination and teamwork, which will enhance the capacity of Arab health systems to respond and adapt, and contribute to building a sustainable health future that meets the aspirations of Arab peoples for development, well-being, and quality of life.
