Oman and Yemen sign joint electricity interconnection cooperation agreements - Sarmad

(KUNA) – Oman and Yemen signed two cooperation agreements on Sunday concerning the power interconnection project between the electrical grid in Oman’s Dhofar Governorate and the electrical grid in Yemen’s Al Mahrah Governorate, as part of the two countries’ collaboration in the energy sector.

According to the Oman News Agency, the agreements include supplying electricity to several areas in Al Mahrah Governorate, including the cities of Huf and Shuhna, as a first phase, through a power distribution network with loads estimated at three megawatts for the Huf area and five megawatts for the Shuhna area, and up to 50 megawatts for Al Ghaidah.

The agency noted that this comes within the framework of efforts to support stability and ensure electricity supplies in the benefiting areas of Al Mahrah Governorate through interconnection with the Dhofar electrical grid.

It added that the two agreements aim to enhance infrastructure in the energy sector, meet the electricity needs of the benefiting areas, and achieve stability, development, and advancement in social and commercial sectors.

According to the agency, the first agreement was signed on the Omani side by Ali Shammash, Chief Executive Officer of Namaa for Dhofar Services, and on the Yemeni side by Othman Aweid, Director General of the General Electricity Company in Al Mahrah Governorate.

The second agreement was signed on the Omani side by Ahmed Al Aabri, Chief Executive Officer of Namaa for Energy and Water Procurement, and on the Yemeni side by Mohsen Ali Balhaf, Engineer and Director of the Yemeni Oil Company in Al Mahrah Governorate.
