Egypt and Pakistan Call for Implementation of US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding - Sarmad

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar affirmed on Sunday the importance of resuming implementation of the “Islamabad” memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran, and reaching a “comprehensive and sustainable agreement that enhances regional security and stability and prevents the conflict from widening in the region.”

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Abdelatty and Dar exchanged “assessments regarding regional files and efforts to contain escalation and restore calm” in a phone call.

It noted that the call came within the framework of “a shared commitment to continuous coordination and consultation on regional developments.”

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the two ministers agreed on the necessity of continuing consultation and close coordination in the coming period, at the bilateral level and within the framework of the four-party regional mechanism, to support joint efforts to enhance security and stability in the region.

The memorandum of understanding, signed on June 17, collapsed, and its validity expired in August, amid dwindling hopes of reaching a near-term agreement between the two sides, as military confrontations resumed.
