Researchers: Rising temperatures exacerbate Germany's water deficit - Sarmad

Germany and Europe have experienced worsening water deficits in recent months, according to joint studies conducted by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) in Potsdam, in collaboration with the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

A spokesperson for the GFZ said, “We fear that water reserves will not recover by the end of the year, even if autumn rainfall exceeds normal levels.”

Researchers monitor the total amount of water on and beneath the Earth’s surface. According to the GFZ, changes in water reserves can be calculated based on these observations.

Annie Krüger, head of the Global Geodetic Observing System and Gravity Field Department at the GFZ, stated, “Since 2015, we have observed increasingly dry conditions in Germany compared to the 15 years that preceded this period.”
