“We Are Not a Party to the Conflict”: Qatar Responds to Iran: No Justification for Attacking Our Territory - Sarmad
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Majid Al-Ansari, called on Iran on Friday to revert to the record that Doha officially submitted to the United Nations, rather than selectively quoting from a security risk assessment prepared for operational purposes.
Al-Ansari stated that the document cited by the Iranian side acknowledges that direct attacks occurred within Qatari territory, noting that extracting a sentence from it out of context is misleading.
He also expressed regret over Tehran’s characterization of the attack on the Rafhan facility as alleged, despite its official documentation, emphasizing that these facilities are part of Qatar’s national assets and a fundamental component of the global energy security system.
Al-Ansari affirmed that Qatar is not a party to this conflict and that attacks on its territory, civilian infrastructure, and endangerment of its population cannot be justified.
He stressed that Doha will continue its diplomatic efforts and vigorous initiatives aimed at de-escalation and enhancing security and stability in the region.
Previously, Bakaiti had cited a safety and security risk assessment submitted by Qatar to the International Telecommunication Union, claiming that the document confirmed Iranian strikes targeted only U.S. military facilities in Qatar and did not affect civilian areas.
In a statement, Al-Ansari said: “If the Iranian side wishes to rely on official documents, we invite it to refer to the record that Qatar officially submitted to the United Nations, rather than selectively quoting from a security risk assessment prepared for operational purposes.”
He clarified that Qatar’s identical letters dated March 1, 2026, and registered under number S/2026/110, documented the launch of Iranian missiles at civilian, commercial, and residential areas, resulting in damage and injuries to 16 people.
He added that a Qatari letter dated July 20 last year documented additional attacks that injured three people, including a child.
Last Wednesday, Qatar announced its support for all diplomatic efforts and initiatives aimed at reaching a solution that ensures freedom of maritime navigation and paves the way for a comprehensive agreement achieving sustainable peace in the region, amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.
This came during three phone calls made by Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty, according to statements from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the statements, the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister discussed, individually with Salam, Fidan, and Abdelatty, cooperation relations and ways to support and strengthen them, along with the latest regional developments, particularly diplomatic efforts and joint coordination to de-escalate tensions and enhance security and stability in the region.
