Turkey announces thwarting of ISIS plot to carry out terrorist attack - Sarmad

Turkey announced on Friday the thwarting of a plot by the “Daesh” (ISIS) organization to carry out a terrorist attack within the country, after successfully neutralizing a member of the group in a security operation in the European part of Istanbul.
The Turkish Anadolu Agency, citing the Istanbul Governorate, reported in a statement that the Counter-Terrorism Department of the Istanbul Police Directorate, in coordination with the Intelligence Department, carried out an operation aimed at arresting a 21-year-old suspect believed to be linked to “Daesh” and planning a terrorist attack inside the country.
The statement added that the suspect opened fire on police officers, prompting them to return fire and neutralize him in the Sultanbeyli area of European Istanbul, noting that a Turkish citizen was injured in the incident.
It emphasized that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
