US Army: We will continue strikes as long as Iran's threats persist - Sarmad
U.S. Central Command spokesperson Timothy Hawkins said the U.S. military would continue striking Iran “as long as its threats persist,” adding that Iran’s military capabilities “have severely declined,” and pointing to the destruction of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps boats in the Strait of Hormuz.
In remarks to the “Fourth Dimension” program broadcast on Bloomberg Middle East, Hawkins affirmed that the response to Iran would be “strong and effective,” noting that Iran’s military capabilities “have significantly weakened under the impact of U.S. strikes.”
He added that “the Strait of Hormuz is open and we are assisting ships transiting through it, and we will not allow Iran to threaten the strait.”
He characterized “Iran’s attempts to launch attacks on civilians as desperate acts,” and said the U.S. military “holds Iran accountable for attacking U.S. forces in the region and innocent civilians.”
Hawkins said the strikes carried out by Central Command against Iran on Tuesday were “highly effective,” enabling the implementation of U.S. plans to target radar capabilities, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps sites, other facilities, and naval capabilities and communication equipment that Iran had used to target U.S. forces in the region and civilians.
Hawkins noted that the United States has more than 50,000 troops, over 20 warships, and dozens of combat aircraft in the region, emphasizing that all these capabilities are ready to carry out any missions assigned to them.
Regarding the stage at which U.S. Central Command could declare victory in the war against Iran, Hawkins clarified that “it is not CENTCOM’s role to declare or define victory.”
He continued: “That falls under the purview of U.S. civilian leadership. That is how things work in the United States. As military forces, our duty is to remain ready to execute all missions entrusted to us.”
The CENTCOM spokesperson denied reports of declining U.S. military weapons and ammunition stocks, dismissing such rumors as “inaccurate.”
