Rubio: Washington Prevents Iran from Financing Its Nuclear Program - Sarmad
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States is working to prevent Iran from accessing funds that, according to Washington’s assessment, it could use to finance its nuclear program or support what he described as hostile acts, emphasizing that Tehran should not be allowed to obtain resources enabling it to acquire a nuclear weapon.
Rubio added that the United States cannot allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon, noting that Washington treats the financing issue as a core component of its efforts to contain Iran’s capabilities.
This aligns with a longstanding U.S. position that preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon remains a central pillar of any agreement with Tehran.
On regional matters, the U.S. Secretary of State stressed that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open and will not come under Iranian control, reaffirming the U.S. stance against Tehran’s use of the strait as leverage against international navigation. Washington has previously stated that Hormuz is an international waterway and that Iran has no right to control transit through it.
In an interview with Fox News, the U.S. Secretary of State said, “As the world undergoes comprehensive geopolitical changes, it is important to remember that complex international problems do not have easy solutions.”
Rubio continued, “I believe the world is going through a transitional period, whether economic or geopolitical. Many of the issues occurring globally do not have simple solutions… and sometimes there are no ideal solutions.”
According to him, “In foreign policy, one often has to choose not between (an ideal answer and a bad one), but between (two less-than-ideal approaches).”
Rubio pointed out that, keeping this in mind, what the United States is trying to do is identify the option that causes the least harm to the country’s interests.
These developments follow a new round of U.S. strikes on targets belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, while Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. sites and bases in the region.
