Chinese President Arrives in Egypt for an Official Visit - Sarmad
Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for an official visit to Egypt, where he will be received by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Xinhua News Agency reported.
The Egyptian presidency said in a statement that the visit “comes within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries across various political, economic, and developmental fields, following up on the implementation of the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement concluded between the two countries in 2014, as well as consulting on a number of regional and international issues of common interest.”
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on August 26 that Xi would visit Egypt after participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
This is Xi’s first visit to Egypt in ten years. His visit comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East region due to Iran’s ongoing six-month war and the preceding Gaza conflict.
In an article translated into Arabic and published today by the Egyptian Al-Ahram newspaper on the occasion of the visit, Xi wrote: “At present, China and Egypt share common goals and efforts in safeguarding the international order, advocating fairness and justice, and applying multilateralism. Both sides firmly support the just cause of the Palestinian people to recover their legitimate rights and strive to find political solutions to hot-button issues and achieve peace and stability in the region.”
Egypt and China maintain substantial economic and trade relations. Beijing invests in several projects across various sectors in Egypt.
The Egyptian Center for Information and Documentation, a government agency, stated that the volume of trade between Egypt and China reached approximately $20.78 billion by the end of 2025, compared to around $17.37 billion in 2024, representing growth of approximately 19.6%.
The agency described China as Egypt’s largest trading partner in non-petroleum goods.
The Egyptian Center for Information and Documentation said that the value of Egyptian exports to China rose to $840.8 million during the first half of 2026, compared to $280.5 million during the same period in 2025, an increase of 199.8%.
Conversely, the value of Egyptian imports from China reached $10.4 billion during the first half of 2026, compared to $9.1 billion during the same period in 2025, an increase of 14.3%.
The agency noted that the value of trade between the two countries rose to $11.3 billion during the first half of 2026, compared to $9.3 billion during the same period in 2025, an increase of 21.5%.
Xi wrote in his article: “China and Egypt have remained reliable partners seeking mutual gains through cooperation. Egypt is an important trade and investment partner for China in the Arab world and Africa.”
An article by el-Sisi, also published today in Al-Ahram, stated: “The comprehensive strategic partnership established by the two countries has brought a boom to bilateral relations, with China becoming a major trade and economic partner for Egypt and the volume of direct Chinese investments increasing.”
