France: Marine Le Pen’s Camp Plans to Ban the Hijab if It Comes to Power - Sarmad

Jean-Philippe Tanguy, a deputy from the right-wing National Rally party in France, announced that supporters of the party’s leader, Marine Le Pen, intend to impose a comprehensive ban on the hijab in France if they come to power.

Tanguy told a French television channel, “We will impose penalties for wearing the Islamic headscarf,” adding that violators would be subject to financial fines.

These remarks come as Marine Le Pen tops opinion polls as a potential presidential candidate. In the latest survey conducted by the Toluna Harris Interactive polling firm on August 18 and 19, Le Pen ranked first, securing between 35% and 38% of voter support.

Meanwhile, leader of the left-wing movement Jean-Luc Mélenchon came in second place, with between 16% and 17% of the vote, highlighting the wide gap among candidates in the potential presidential race.
