Yemeni Foreign Minister: Kuwait Red Crescent is a steadfast humanitarian partner in supporting the Yemeni people - Sarmad
(KUNA) – Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Afrah Al-Zoubi, affirmed on Tuesday the importance of the humanitarian role played by the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) in supporting the Yemeni people, praising the assistance and projects the society has provided over the years across health, education, relief, and humanitarian sectors in Yemen.
Speaking to KUNA during her visit to the KRCS headquarters, Minister Al-Zoubi stated that Kuwaiti efforts in Yemen reflect the deep fraternal and sincere relations between the two countries, embodying Kuwait’s steadfast position in supporting the Yemeni people, particularly given the circumstances the country is currently facing.
She added that she discussed with the society ways to expand the scope of humanitarian aid provided to Yemen and develop existing cooperation to better respond to urgent needs and humanitarian and developmental priorities in the coming period. She noted that an agreement was reached to develop specific proposals for priority projects and programs in required and urgent fields, in coordination between the Kuwait Red Crescent and partner institutions in Yemen, ensuring that support is directed toward the most pressing needs.
For his part, Yemen’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Ali Mansour bin Safa, in a similar statement to KUNA, praised the pioneering humanitarian and developmental role of Kuwait and its positions supporting the Yemeni people, which have extended across various parts of the world, reflecting Kuwait’s firm approach of providing support to peoples without being tied to political or economic interests.
Bin Safa said that the discussions held by the Yemeni delegation during its visit to Kuwait reflected the depth of fraternal relations between the two countries, emphasizing the importance of continuing Kuwaiti support and backing the legitimate government in facing current challenges. He expressed his appreciation for Kuwait’s steadfast stance toward Yemen amid various crises.
He added that the discussions covered several files of mutual interest, including support for economic and developmental projects. Talks were held with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to resume support for priority projects, alongside discussing loan commitments and the possibility of rescheduling them in light of Yemen’s current conditions.
He pointed out that discussions with the Red Crescent addressed urgent humanitarian needs in Yemen, with the society expressing its readiness to continue providing aid, particularly in health, education, relief, and improving living conditions for the most vulnerable groups.
Bin Safa clarified that the meeting also discussed the importance of enhancing the role of partner and implementing humanitarian associations and institutions within Yemen, working in coordination with relevant Kuwaiti authorities, and addressing challenges hindering their activities.
For his part, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Khaled Al-Mughams, told KUNA that Kuwait has always stood by its brothers in the Republic of Yemen, and that the projects implemented by the society translate Kuwait’s firm approach to supporting humanitarian work, which has adopted an integrated path combining relief and development.
Al-Mughams added that in 2021, the society implemented health and educational projects and centers for the care and rehabilitation of orphans. In 2022, it executed 15 projects in water, education, health, and orphan care, performed 200 surgeries, and organized two relief convoys carrying 100 tons of humanitarian and medical aid.
He noted that projects continued in 2023, which saw the implementation of 12 projects, including medical camps for 200 surgeries, the establishment of the late Yusuf Abdullah Al-Nafisi Eye Hospital in Marib, and providing health and surgical services to approximately 400 people. Additionally, the society implemented the late Sheikh Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah Complex in Marib, supported schools in Shabwa and Hadhramaut, and executed water, food, and a collective marriage project benefiting 60 individuals.
He indicated that in 2024, the society implemented approximately 15 projects, including performing 300 surgeries, treating 1,247 patients, and executing projects in water and education. It also organized humanitarian convoys carrying about 40 tons of aid. In 2025, the society continued supporting the health sector by providing medical equipment for a dental clinic as part of a land convoy carrying approximately 40 tons.
Al-Mughams explained that the visit of the Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates and her accompanying delegation provided an opportunity to exchange views on existing humanitarian needs and priorities and to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the coming period. He affirmed the society’s readiness to study proposals and projects that meet the actual needs of local communities, in cooperation and coordination with partner institutions and authorities in Yemen.
He reiterated the commitment of the Red Crescent to continue supporting its brothers in Yemen according to available capacities and humanitarian priorities, following Kuwait’s humanitarian approach and its keenness to build bridges of goodwill and giving, and to support projects that contribute to recovery and stability while preserving human dignity. He expressed his hope for further coordination and cooperation with Yemeni authorities in the coming period.
