Cockroaches carrying medicine to those trapped under the rubble... remotely guided - Sarmad

In the race to rescue people trapped under earthquake rubble and collapsed buildings, rescue teams may locate victims but struggle to reach them quickly due to narrow passages and unstable debris.
From this dilemma emerged an idea that seems closer to science fiction: transforming live cockroaches into small, remotely guided rescue platforms capable of locating trapped individuals and delivering first-aid supplies to them.
Researchers from the University of Queensland and the University of New South Wales in Australia have developed what they call “Paraburg,” a “cyborg rescue cockroach” equipped with cameras and miniature fluid-injection systems.
The researchers chose giant burrowing cockroaches from northern Queensland, scientifically known as Macropanesthia rhinoceros. These are the heaviest cockroach species in the world, reaching lengths of approximately 8.5 centimeters.
The size and strength of these insects allow them to carry small electronic and medical equipment while retaining their natural ability to move through cracks and traverse uneven surfaces.
Researchers note that cockroaches exhibit agility, adaptability, and low energy requirements—traits that are difficult to combine in a robot of comparable size.
During the preparation process, researchers anesthetize the insects before attaching electrodes and electronic chips to ensure they do not feel pain during the procedure. Using limited electrical signals, operators can stimulate parts of the insect’s nervous system to steer it left or right and control its movement.
