Iraqi Government Receives 26,000 Corruption Reports Following Activation of 'Whistleblower Law' - Sarmad

Iraqi government spokesperson Haider al-Abudi revealed that authorities had received 26,000 reports on corruption cases during the campaign launched to recover looted state funds.

Al-Abudi explained in statements carried by local media that the reports from Iraqis contributed to returning 1.359 trillion dinars to the state treasury, according to the latest disclosure made by the Integrity Commission on Saturday during its meeting with Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi.

The spokesperson emphasized that activating the Whistleblowers Law encourages citizens to report corruption, especially since some rewards can reach up to 5 percent of the value of the recovered funds.

Regarding the implementation of the law, al-Abudi stated that combating corruption requires partners; the government alone, without the Higher Judicial Council, the Integrity Commission, the Audit Bureau, and the oversight and integrity system as a whole, along with citizens and employees, may not be able to advance this file without such strategic partnership.
