Trump signs executive order to establish American Space Academy - Sarmad

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to begin establishing a new Space Academy, modeled after West Point and other prestigious U.S. military service academies.

Trump added, “It will be called the American Space Academy. This is a very big deal.”

The announcement came during a visit to NASA’s Johnson Space Center to honor the Artemis 2 mission crew by awarding them the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.

He noted that the academy would help train the military personnel, engineers, and civilian technicians needed as the U.S. Space Force grows, the commercial space sector expands, and Washington broadens its ambitions on the Moon and beyond.

Trump stated, “A nation cannot be number one on Earth if it is second in space. That’s not going to happen. It simply doesn’t work that way.”

He added that NASA has begun work on what he described as the first nuclear-powered interplanetary spacecraft, expected to launch on a mission to Mars in 2028.

He pointed out that this spacecraft could be the first in a larger U.S. fleet aimed at making space travel easier.
