US Treasury Secretary: Iranian regime continues to squander vast sums abroad while its people suffer - Sarmad

(KUNA) – U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Thursday that the Iranian regime continues to squander “vast sums” abroad while the Iranian people suffer domestically.

Bessent wrote in a post on the X platform that “as the Iranian people struggle to meet their basic needs, the corrupt regime governing them continues to squander huge amounts abroad.”

He clarified that “instead of directing billions of dollars to its terrorist proxies, the regime should spend those funds on its own people.”

Bessent had previously stated that the “economic pariah” campaign launched by Washington last Monday aims to cut off “every economic lifeline that sustains the Iranian regime,” targeting sectors such as digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and maritime shipping.
