Qatar discussed with Iran a proposed framework for establishing a temporary navigation corridor through the Strait of Hormuz - Sarmad

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday that Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed the proposed interim framework with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, during his visit to Tehran. The framework includes establishing a temporary joint shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz and implementing a joint project to clear the strait of mines.

In a statement, the ministry noted that the two ministers also discussed the latest developments in the region and diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and creating favorable conditions for dialogue.

The talks also focused on ways to enhance regional security and stability.

During the meeting, the Qatari minister emphasized the importance of respecting the sovereignty of neighboring countries and freedom of navigation, stressing the need to continue diplomatic efforts to address differences and reduce tensions through dialogue.

For his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister expressed his country’s appreciation for Qatar, commending its continuous diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and support the dialogue process.

This comes as Pakistani, Qatari, and Omani diplomatic efforts continue to bridge differences and ease tensions between Tehran and Washington.

Earlier, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi also visited the Iranian capital to discuss the issue of the Strait of Hormuz.
