Egypt bans tourists from visiting Khan el-Khalili and Al-Hussein during the Mawlid al-Nabawi - Sarmad

The Egyptian Travel Agencies and Tourism Companies Chamber notified its members of the decision to halt the arrival of tourist groups in the Khan el-Khalili and Al-Hussein area.
In Circular Letter No. 148 of 2026, the Chamber clarified that, given the celebrations marking the Prophet’s Birthday and the resulting severe congestion in the Khan el-Khalili and Al-Hussein area, tourist groups have been barred from entering the aforementioned zone.
The Chamber indicated that the decision takes effect from 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
The Egyptian Travel Agencies and Tourism Companies Chamber confirmed that the arrival of tourist groups in the Khan el-Khalili and Al-Hussein area will resume starting on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
This decision comes as part of efforts to regulate the movement of tourist groups during the Prophet’s Birthday celebrations, amid the heavy crowds and congestion the area typically experiences during this occasion.
