US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Iran is “completely collapsing,” hours before his administration announced details of a new package of stringent economic sanctions against Tehran.

Trump wrote on his platform, Truth Social: “Iran is completely collapsing!” as the US Treasury Department prepared to unveil measures aimed at further isolating Iran economically.

The US president said Iran is going through a vortex of economic and military collapse.

The move is part of a pressure campaign that Washington has described as the largest of its kind against Tehran.

Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that Washington was preparing to launch what he called the “biggest financial attack” on an adversary, as part of efforts to tighten the trade and financing channels available to Iran and to pressure entities and countries that continue to deal with it.

The measures come amid mounting pressure on the Iranian economy, with the rial hitting a new record low against the dollar on Monday, as markets anticipated the new US sanctions.
