Red Crescent participates in DEHAD conference to expand humanitarian partnerships - Sarmad

(KUNA) – Dr. Latifa Al-Meer, Secretary-General of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, affirmed that the Society’s participation in the Dubai International Relief and Development Conference and Exhibition (DIRD) falls within the framework of strengthening humanitarian partnerships and expanding cooperation horizons with various components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and humanitarian partners.

Al-Meer told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Monday, on the sidelines of the Society’s delegation’s participation in the conference, that the delegation held two meetings: the first with the Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Jagannath Chapagain, and the second with the President of the Arab Red Crescent of Syria, Dr. Mohammad Hazem Baqala, and his accompanying delegation, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and coordinate humanitarian efforts to address the urgent needs facing the region.

She clarified that the meeting with the Secretary-General of the International Federation focused on developing humanitarian action strategies and strengthening cooperation between National Societies and components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, as well as developing volunteer work and building volunteers’ capacities to enhance the efficiency of humanitarian response, exchange expertise, and strengthen readiness to face crises and disasters.

She added that the meeting with the delegation of the Arab Red Crescent of Syria addressed mechanisms for developing cooperation in humanitarian and relief fields and exchanging expertise to enhance the capacity of both Societies to implement humanitarian programs and projects. She emphasized that the Kuwait Red Crescent Society has always stood by its brothers in the Syrian Arab Republic and will continue to provide humanitarian support to alleviate the suffering of those affected and support recovery efforts.

Al-Meer also stressed that these meetings reflect the standing enjoyed by the State of Kuwait and the Kuwait Red Crescent Society on the international humanitarian stage, and embody the Society’s commitment to consolidating its relationships with humanitarian partners to develop humanitarian action and enhance response to the most vulnerable groups.

She underscored that the Society will continue its approach of building effective partnerships and exchanging expertise with humanitarian organizations and societies, in line with its humanitarian mission to alleviate the suffering of those affected wherever they are.

The Dubai International Relief and Development Conference and Exhibition (DIRD), whose activities began today and will continue until August 26, is among the most prominent international forums specialized in humanitarian action and sustainable development. It is held at the Dubai World Trade Centre with broad participation from international and regional humanitarian organizations and entities involved in humanitarian action and sustainable development.
