Despite ongoing tensions, ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz rises 27% over two weeks - Sarmad

Commercial ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz rose by 27% last week, according to a CNN report based on data from the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

The agency recorded 103 commercial vessels entering the strait, while 89 others departed over the past seven days.

Despite this weekly increase, navigation traffic through the strait remains approximately 50% below pre-conflict levels, according to data from specialized ship-tracking platforms, including the energy and shipping research firm Kpler.

CNN reported that more than 80% of the ships continuing to transit the strait are currently following a route along the Omani coast, in an effort to reduce the risks of security threats and strikes targeting navigation in the area.

These developments coincide with the intensification of economic measures by the U.S. administration, led by Donald Trump, against commercial ships linked to Iran, alongside ongoing warnings from maritime safety authorities urging ships and their crews to exercise the highest degree of caution during transit.
