Egypt and Oman stress the importance of restoring navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and prioritizing political solutions - Sarmad

(KUNA) – Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, and his Omani counterpart, Badr Al Busaidi, stressed in a telephone conversation the necessity of continuing consultations and close coordination in the coming period, as well as intensifying efforts to contain tensions, prevent the escalation from widening, and prioritize political and diplomatic solutions to safeguard the security and stability of the region.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement on Saturday that the call addressed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to continue developing them across various fields, as well as the exchange of views and assessments regarding recent developments in the regional situation and issues of mutual interest.

The statement clarified that the call discussed in detail the ongoing developments in the region, particularly those related to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

In this context, Abdelatty emphasized the paramount importance of restoring normal navigation and ensuring the security, safety, and freedom of passage through the strait, given its direct impact on the global economy, energy security, supply chains, and international trade.

He also stressed the importance of building on ongoing diplomatic efforts to contribute to de-escalation and create conditions for a return to the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, and to resume the negotiation process leading to a comprehensive and sustainable settlement that enhances security and stability in the region.
