US Treasury Secretary: We will topple the Iranian regime - Sarmad

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Thursday that the Trump administration’s move to tighten economic sanctions on Iran aims to push the Tehran regime toward “collapse.”
Speaking to CNN, Bessent said the economic war Trump has threatened Iran with would be successful, adding, “We will bring this system down. This will be the greatest coordinated economic isolation in world history.”
The US Treasury Secretary also warned US allies that they are “either with us or against us” on the issue of economically isolating Iran, which President Donald Trump announced.
Bessent said regarding his message to allies, “We are going to them and saying: either you are with us or against us.”
When asked whether the United States would pressure China, he said, “A lot of conversations are better held privately,” but urged Beijing to “align with the plan.”
He said that the plan to escalate economic sanctions on Iran reduces the likelihood of the United States resorting to intensive military operations against Tehran. He added, “If we exert maximum economic pressure, this most likely means there will be no return to large-scale military operations, but I emphasize that this applies only at the present time.”
He clarified, “We are confident that everyone wants to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and see energy prices fall. It must be taken into account that China obtains 50 percent of its energy needs from the Gulf region, so joining this path would greatly serve its interests.”
The US Treasury Secretary also said he would hold a press conference on Monday “to speak specifically about what we will do” regarding Iran.
Trump had warned on Wednesday of economic consequences against any country providing “any kind of vital support to Iran,” as the United States seeks to end the war that it, alongside Israel, started about six months ago.
